This blog serves the nail polish frenzy that has had me since I was five years old and was looking through my mother’s Avon catalog. I begged her to buy me the darkest shades and the sassiest reds. She never did buy me Avon nail polish, but she sure had no problems with letting me get some Wet N Wild stuff for 99 cents.
I didn’t wear nail polish for the longest time because I felt it got in the way of my jewelry making. That particular foray started with a bit of beading, eventually resulting in me buying sheets of silver, a scroll saw, an acetylene torch and building a ventilated jewelry studio in our home. My hands were banging away with hammer to metal (usually silver and copper) and were constantly being washed with baking soda and soap (to neutralize all the crazy acids and chemicals I work with to get that pretty finish on my work). Nail polish became a necessity in those years because my nails were looking so awful I was ashamed of them – they were yellowed and brittle. Nail polish literally saved my nails. Who knew that my love of polish would eventually save my nails?
We ended up moving to India in late 2008 and stayed for a year. That was when, for the first time, I wasn’t closeted in my studio. I wasn’t working with chemicals. My nails had a chance to heal, to breathe. I didn’t wear polish for six months while there, but after that I became obsessed with getting color on my tips…a girl can only go so long! Currently I’m not in my studio as often because it’s in another state. However, when I’m working there, I forget about my nail polish for a fraction of a second….then I accidentally scrape it off while working on jewelry.
It’s only a reminder that I have to find the balance between nail polish and working with my hands.
The short version: I’m just a lil ole’ Filipino girl who has a sick unhealthy obsession with nail polish, jewelry, traveling, eating good food, Hello Kitty and just about anything that’s shiny or smells good…and not necessarily all in that order.
I’m also a video game geek. I married a fellow video game player! (NO we did not meet in an MMO, but we met when we both worked in a video game company in San Francisco) When we’re not playing Rock Band or an MMO, we venture out to take pictures. I attempt to hike and all that other fun stuff. He takes kick ass photos.
I love my husband and my dog. I also love the fact that we’ve had the good fortune to live a good life. We’ve been blessed (some say cursed) with the ability to be able to live and work in different parts of the world. One day we’ll settle down. Maybe.
Just to let you know where we have lived and are currently living, with currently living the very last city at the end of the list! Italicized is a place not in the contiguous United States.
